What makes our classes different?
The ATDF classes offer children and teens a chance to become immersed in tap culture. Classes focus on the fundamentals of rhythm tap, including clean technique, classic and contemporary tap repertory, and improvisation skills. Tap history, films, jazz music, and special guests deepen students' appreciation of this great American art form.
Class descriptions:
Creative Rhythms Pre-Tap for 3½ to 4 year olds is a fun, 45 minute creative movement class. Through rhythm, music and movement games, children develop motor coordination and build towards tap dance basics.
Beginning Tap Classes for ages 5 through teens: Beginning 1A, 1B, & 1C are for dancers with no tap experience or less than one to two years continuous tap training. Beginning 2 and 3 are for students with one to three years tap training. Classes start with the basics and build solid tap technique in a fun and supportive environment. Exercises, improvisation skills, and simple combinations give a foundation for learning tap repertory in higher levels. Students are placed according to tap level, age and motor skills.
Repertory Classes levels I though V are for students ages 8 to teen who have mastered beginning tap skills and are ready to learn tap repertory. Students progress through five levels of tap technique, improvisation skills and classic and contemporary repertory passed down from a rich tap legacy.
Advanced Technique for Teens and Adults is taught by a rotating roster of guest master teachers with a focus on technique, rudiments, repertory and honing advanced rhythm tap skills.
Tap Composition (for teens and adults by invitation/audition only) students work on creating choreography developing compositional skills and preparing for performance. Contact Susan Hebach at shebach@atdf.org for details.
