CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning Rudiments NEW! for Adults and Teens 13+

Tap Rudiments for Advanced Beginners and Beginners with at least one year of training: Get your flaps to snap and your paddles to roll!  No choreography—just a weekly tap workout to strengthen your rudiments and develop clean, solid footwork. Every 3 months a new tap artist will teach the class to give students a fresh take on technique.

Absolute Beginner Tap for Adults and Teens 13+

Created especially to give new students a chance to learn the basic steps and vocabulary of tap dance, this class is a great way to learn the FUNdamental skills needed to join our BEGINNER tap class, or "brush up the basics". If you’ve always wanted to try tap, this is your chance. No experience necessary, some loaner tap shoes available.  If you can walk, you can tap.

Beginning level classes for students who already know flaps and shuffles and are ready to learn fun and easy combinations.

Advanced Beginner Tap for Adults & Teens 13+

Advanced Beginning classes for students who are comfortable with flaps, shuffles, time steps, paddle & roll.  Excellent choice for dancers with just a few years experience or older dancers who want to learn at an easy pace.

Adv Beginning Repertory NEW! for Adults & Teens 13+

Are you ready to hone your performance skills through classic and contemporary tap works?  Each trimester (3 months) a choreographer teaches a work of tap repertory geared to Advanced Beginning level students.  Students will work on personal style while developing a solid foundation in tap material handed down to us from past masters of the form. No drop-ins allowed, students must register for the trimester.  Students in this Repertory course must also attend one of our weekly Advanced Beginning tap technique classes or the new Rudiments class.

Intermediate Technique for Adults & Teens 13+

Easy paced intermediate classes for students who are comfortable with the basics, time steps, paddle & roll, and are ready for moderately challenging choreography.

Tuesdays, 4:30-6:00pm Taught by Joseph Webb

Joseph incorporates elements which are extremely vital and beneficial to the development of a dancers physical and mental bodies. These elements include, but not limited to, yoga asanas, breath work, a solid footwork warm-up and a combination that is challenging but fun!

Advanced Technique for Adults & Teens 13+

Fast moving or challenging classes for advanced and professional tap dancers.

Advanced & Pro Repertory for Adults & Teens 13+

Each 4 week Repertory series focuses on a great work of classic tap repertory or contemporary material.  Choreographers and repertory will be announced soon, but may include works by Buster Brown, Brenda Bufalino, Bill Robinson, Cookie Cook, Leon Collins, etc . . .  taught by our roster of ATDF tap artists.  Check the website for the schedule of teachers and repertory. Drop-ins allowed but students are encouraged to register for the entire 4 week course.

FIRST (4) WEEKS Leon Collins Routines 1 & 2.

Taught by Barbara Duffy

Known for his melodic musicality, Leon created 14 routines to help his students with their technique, sound and musicality. Both Routines 1 & 2 are the introduction to his body of work and are invaluable for any tap student or professional tap dancer/teacher to learn. In 2008, Barbara received an award from The Chicago Human Rhythm Project for preserving Leon's legacy.


Advanced Technique and Repertory for Adults & Teens 13+

A "Workshop" styled class discovering new choreographic forms through structured improvisation.

The 1st hour of each class will focus on technique and rhythmic patterns and the second hour will explore breaking habits of conformity while discovering and developing your own unique choreographic vision.

This (8) Week Workshop will be followed by a Weekend Tap Intensive (November 5-7) led Ms. Bufalino and a live accompanist and arranger. Dancers with new work may have an opportunity to perform their material in a Sunday evening Studio Presentation.

Donation based combo class for Inter/Advanced level students and professionals.

Looking to Jam?  Looking to learn more?  Come work out, discover, and explore on a Friday afternoon with class times focused on that improv circle and learning new choreography with Lisa La Touche.  These classes are geared towards all int/adv to professional dancers who are looking to just get in the studio and continue a momentum of growth.  Leave your excuses at the door, bring your love for tap dancing, pay what you can and let's just DANCE!

Adult students can start at any time.  4 class card for beginner classes expires 6 weeks from date purchased. 8 class card for beginner classes expires 10 weeks from date purchased. There are no refunds, no extensions on tuition for classes not taken.  Students may do make-ups within 10 weeks at any Beginner class. No registration fee!

TAP CITY, THE NEW YORK CITY TAP FESTIVAL
Tap City features eight action packed days of programs and events where hundreds of tap dancers converge on the tap dance capital of the world to study, perform, teach, observe, share and dance!

MASTER TAP INTENSIVE
Master Tap Intensives give advanced students a chance to work with a top teacher and choreographer in the field. Students experience first hand the choreographic process and creation of original material that will be presented in future productions produced by the ATDF.
