Explore the roots of tap, how it began in America, and all the ways it has grown into a global and contemporary dance form it is today.  Special live performance by members of the Tap City Youth Ensemble and a presentation by ATDF Education Advisor & Artist in Residence Margaret Morrison.

 

Explore Tap Dance is a new family fun series curated by the ATDF to explore the rich and diverse world of Tap Dance.  Featuring a variety of live performances from our ATDF artists in residence & The Tap City Youth Ensemble; film clips, discussion and demonstrations about the history of Tap Dance, and audience participation!  Each presentation will explore a different aspect about Tap Dance.  Expect a feast of rhythm and ideas, fun for the whole family.  Free to ATDF students & families.  Open to the public, donations recommended.

Tap Explorations: Born in a Trunk

Join us for the next installment of our “Tap Explorations” series, as we debut the new exhibit: “Born in a Trunk: A History of Brenda Bufalino and the American Tap Dance Orchestra/Foundation”. Dive deep into the history of the American Tap Dance Foundation as we explore the link between Brenda and the Copasetics, the evolution of the American Tap Dance Orchestra, their travels and influence on the world of tap dance, and much more! We will be joined by former members of the Orchestra and view some rarely-seen footage of their performances.

Tap Explorations: Who Were the Copasetics?

Who were The Copasetics? Learn the answer during a presentation of anecdotes, dance, video and images from the personal perspective of Hank Smith, who knew some of them. Get the “low down” on the group inspired by Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. Performances by Hank Smith and the Tap City Youth Ensemble.
