GENE KELLY: THE LEGACY

An Evening with Patricia Ward Kelly

Wednesday, July 9, 2014, 8pm

Peter Norton Symphony Space/Peter Jay Sharp Theatre

2537 Broadway at 95th Street

Legendary dancer, director and choreographer Gene Kelly brought astonishing grace and athleticism to the movies. His engaging onscreen personality is so accessible that we feel like we know him. In fact, we know very little.

In this unique one-woman show, Patricia Ward Kelly - his biographer and the young woman he ultimately chose to marry - gives us the story. Taking audiences behind the scenes, she presents an intimate and mesmerizing portrait of this dynamic and innovative artist who continues to delight and inspire us.

Using brilliant film clips, previously unreleased audio recordings, personal keepsakes, and stories he shared with her over their decade together, Patricia Kelly guides us on an unforgettable journey into the life and heart of the man who changed the look and style of dance on film and became one of the world’s most beloved and iconic stars.

Tap City puts ALL of our students on stage in a fun show of youth, teen and adult students. Tap dancers will perform for each other—on Broadway!--in an informal performance featuring the newly minted work from all of the Tap City Residencies from the Youth, Pre-Professional and Adult Programs. It’s a chance to see and be seen, with all performers sitting in the audience to watch the works of fellow students, amateurs and professionals from around the world. A few dancers, duets, trios, etc. will also be selected from video submissions. See Performance Opportunities for details. Hosted by our entire Education Program Faculty and ATDF Artistic Director Tony Waag.
