ABOUT THE ADULT RESIDENCIES:

There are four Residencies on four different levels. You can select one or two Residencies (morning and/or afternoon) depending on how intensive a training program you want. Students study intensively with a choreographer for 4 days, learning new or classic works of tap repertory. The Residencies culminate with a fun and informal performance by all the Tap City Residency groups at Tap Future the All-Student Showcase Friday, July 10 at The Duke on 42nd Street.

Residency descriptions:

Germaine Goodson: Henry Le’Tang’s Choreography, is Flashy, Fast, & filled with Fascinating Rhythms!  It requires an ensemble that has:  high energy, stamina, style, technique, partnering skills, solo/duet, & trio features. The dancers that are performing in the piece must be able to pick up & retain the intricate foot work & the choreography.  "Henry Le Tang used patterns of the floor/stage, to create the focus on the dancers that are being featured.  The movements are constant & exciting to watch & do. It is my pleasure to recreate Mr. Le Tang’s work for Tap City 2015.  Because we have such a short time to learn, rehearse & to perform the material, I will not water down the material, or the speed.  Please come willing to learn quickly.  It will be fun, but challenging.  Let’s make each moment of this workshop an experience that will enhance your career in Tap Dancing.  I want to represent his work as the Great & Extraordinary Tap Dancing Choreographer that he was, at its Best!  Thank You!"  Germaine

Baakari Wilder: "Join me as we combine accents with subtlety, smoothness with fluidity to create a piece that should feel good to navigate while informing the viewer/listener of the power of "the dance". Baakari

Michelle Dorrance: (coming soon)

Acia Gray: “The Souls of Your Feet is a creative residency focusing on the structure, musicality and communication of tone and dynamics in tap composition.  A fun and engaging experience that will set a strong foundation in our wonderful and shared rhythmic language." Acia

ABOUT TAP IT OUT! REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCE:

Students should plan to arrive at Tap City on later than Monday afternoon for a manditory Orientation followed by a Tap it Out Rehearsal on Monday, July 6 (2-4:30pm). Tap It Out rehearsals continue each afternoon, Tuesday, July 7 - Friday, July 10.

All Tap City students will rehearse five days in preparation for TAP IT OUT! Tap City’s unique outdoor celebration of percussive feet Saturday, July 11. Imagine a chorus of 100s of tapping feet performing a cappella choreography in multiple tap dance styles creating a explosion of tones and rhythms presented out of doors and FREE to the public. Tap It Out is conceived and created by the mayor of Tap City Tony Waag and is co-directed and staged by dancer/choreographer Lynn Schwab. If you are registered in the Adult, Pre-Professional or Youth Program, you have the opportunity to participate in this event as it is included in your package! Once you enroll, you will receive detailed instructions in the Spring. Each dancer will dance on their own platform, which will be supplied by Tap City, and, will learn their part of the presentation in advance via YouTube. Adult and teen group rehearsals will take place Monday, July 6th - Saturday, July 11th and are designed around your regular class schedule.

Levels for Adult Program/Master Classes (listed challenging to easiest):

ADV: Fast moving or challenging classes for advanced and professional tap dancers.

INT/ADV: Challenging classes for intermediate and advanced students.

INT: Challenging concepts and choreography for Intermediate level dancers.

SLOW INT: Slower paced classes that focus on intermediate choreography and concepts. In Slow Intermediate level, material will be broken down at an easier pace than in an Intermediate level class. Recommended for students who are already very comfortable with tap basics, time steps, paddle & roll, and are ready to move on to more challenging choreography and concepts.

MIX: Mixed level classes for advanced beginning, intermediate, advanced & professional dancers. Students will work at their own level. Material taught may allow students to work more deeply on moderately paced or challenging concepts.

ADV BEG: Advanced Beginning choreography and concepts broken down and taught at a moderate pace. Recommended for students who are comfortable with flaps, shuffles, time steps, paddle & roll. Excellent choice for dancers with just a few years’ experience or older dancers who want to learn at a more relaxed pace.
