Tap City 2017

PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM (ages 11 - 19)

NEW IN 2017

2 LEVELS: Tap City’s popular Teen program is geared specifically to advanced  kids and teens (ages 11+) and advanced young adults (ages 14 -19) seeking a challenging and unique educational and performance opportunity.  Pre-Professional students will be placed in two groups, based on skill level. The all-inclusive program focuses on honing well-rounded tap skills in a professional environment that stresses self-discipline and excellence.  Selected by video audition, students will work intensively with a professional tap choreographer in the preparation of tap choreography that will be performed on the last day of the program.

The Pre-Professional Program includes:

• Registration Fee

4-Day Choreography Residency with SARAH REICH & JOSETTE and JOSEPH WIGGAN.

• Lunchtime Event: brown bag lunch with the choreographer

• Master Classes within PPP with BRENDA BUFALINO, BARBARA DUFFY, RYAN JOHNSON & CALEB TEICHER.

• 1 Ticket to Tap Treasures Tour (plus Treasure Tour goodies)
• 1 Ticket to the Annual Copasetic Boat Ride
• 1 Ticket to Tap Awards Show
• 1 Ticket to Tap Ellington Concert

PPP PRE-PLACEMENT DVD: All PPP students must be accepted into the program. Please send a DVD submission or web link (via YouTube)  that demonstrates your technique and performance skills showing the following material: time-steps, paddle and roll combinations, pull backs, wings, favorite flash step, and perform a 2-3 minute tap choreography piece/excerpt  to music demonstrating your ability to keep time while expressing your personal style. Once the submitted DVD or web link is reviewed, each student will be evaluated and contacted regarding acceptance into the Pre-Professional Program.  Not all applicants will be accepted. Space is limited to 50 dancers in two levels. Please send video or link to Susan Hebach, at shebach@atdf.org

On the final evening of the Residencies, all Tap City students will meet at Symphony Space to perform the new repertory work they learned at Tap Future, Tap City's All-Student Performance. Tickets only available to family and friends of Tap City student performers.

Tap City begins with two days of amazing Master Classes at the American Tap Dance Center, 154 Christopher Street #2B (Optional Classes, not included in tuition).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

 

TAP TREASURES TOURS: details coming

 

REPERTORY: Each morning, Tuesday-Friday, students will work with Master Tap Choreographer SARAH REICH or the team of JOSETTE and JOSEPH WIGGAN, learning a professional-level work of tap repertory. Over the four days they will polish the work and prepare it for performance. On the afternoon of Saturday day, students will perform their newly-minted work for other Tap City students, friends, and family at the Tap Future performance, at Symphony Space.

REPERTORY DESCRIPTION: TBA

LUNCH: On the first day of the Repertory Rehearsal, students will meet at lunchtime with the choreographer for videos and talk about her dance career. Students should bring a bag lunch. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will have a 1-hour lunch break.

PPP Master Classes: After a 30 minute break, dancers will have special master classes with BRENDA BUFALINO, BARBARA DUFFY, CALEB TEICHER & TBA.

REPERTORY REVIEW OR REHEARSAL TBA: An extra hour at the end of the afternoon is set aside, if the choreographer needs a little extra time with dancers.

SATURDAY: PPP students will have a short morning tech rehearsal, time TBA, at Symphony Space. PPP students will perform in Tap Future at 5:00pm in the afternoon.
