If you haven’t tapped recently, or if you are not familiar with the tap vocabulary and dances listed in the description,

try one of the lower levels and move up from there.

Absolute Beginner Tap Workshops for Adults and Teens 13+

If you have never taken a tap dance class, or have had less than 6 months of classes, this is the class for you.  All basic tap skills are introduced to build a solid basic level of technique (shuffles, flaps, cramp rolls, irish, shuffle ball change, etc.) and basic fundamental music skills are introduced as well. Student learn unique combinations using these tap fundamentals, and learn parts of the “Shim Sham”.

Fast Beginner Repertory for Adults & Teens 13+ (Starts November 7)

WEDNESDAYS, 6:15-7:30PM

Want to add some “bankable” classic and historic tap choreography to your repetiore? This class is geared toward the FAST Beginner level, and is focused on introducing and exploring classic works and combinations of the Copasetics, Eddie Brown, Pete Nugent, Leon Collins, Buster Brown, and other great tap artists. Students should have some prior experience with various time steps, the shim sham, and paddle and roll combinations, and drawback combinations to be successful in class. Class will learn about the choreographer whose work they are learning, and where possible take a look at some archival video footage. This class is for students seeking to build a solid tap foundation, working toward deeper tap explorations in the future.

Advanced Beginner for Adults & Teens 13+

Intermediate Repertory for Adults & Teens 13+

Are you ready to hone your performance skills through classic and contemporary tap works? Each Session students are introduced to a work of tap repertory geared towards intermediate level students. Performance opportunities. No drop-ins allowed, students must register for an entire Session, but students may take one class before registering. Students in this Repertory course are encouraged to also attend one of our weekly Advanced Beginning or Fast Beginning tap technique classes.

NEW Swing Dance Basics Class

Swing Dance Basics is an intro to the partnered connection, the footwork basics, and the history of the Lindy Hop. Taught with joy and playfulness, special emphasis will be given to the rhythm and musicality of the dance, and it's common origins and links to tap dance.
 


Tap Improvisation (Mixed Levels)

Open Improvisation is a class which provides tools, ideas and concepts to help any level dancer become more expressive in their tap improvisation. The focus is on physical, mental, musical and emotional exercises to help expand creativity and to become more confident when improvising. Barbara has been teaching tap improvisation classes for 28 years. She creates a fun, nurturing atmosphere to allow students the freedom to find their voices. Her book Tap into Improv, A Guide to Tap Dance Improvisation was published in 2017.

Tap Composition (Mixed Levels)

Thursdays (7:30 - 8:45pm) Begins September 27th!
Taught by Margaret Morrison


A choreo-lab for Advanced, Intermediate, and Advanced Beginning level tap dancers to explore tap composition, improvisation, and jazz music fundamentals. This is a class for dancers who want to begin composing or want to move to the next phase in their choreographic and improvisational skills. Students will develop their own tap phrases, choruses, and build towards performance works. Experienced and novice choreographers are welcome. Drop-ins are allowed, new students may join at any time. To get the most out of the composition skills, students are encouraged to attend an entire themed session. Guest musicians will participate occasionally.

2018 Themed Sessions:

September-October: choreography fundamentals, improvisation, and advanced compositional skills to Swing Structures and Jazz Standards

November-December: choreography fundamentals, improvisation, and advanced compositional skills to Latin Jazz and Brazilian grooves.
