18th Annual Dance Parade
All ATDF students, teachers, parents, families and artists can participated in both the Dance Parade (12-3pm) and the DanceFest 2024 (3-7pm).
The parade begins at 21st Street & Broadway and then ends in Tompkins Square Park for the annual DanceFest 2024 with free performances and dance instruction.
This year the American Tap Dance Foundation has a float in the parade where ATDF Artists in Residence, the Tap City Youth Ensemble and other special guests will perform! AND, our very own BRENDA BUFALINO is a Grand Marshal! Meanwhile everyone who knows the Shim Sham and/or has taken one of the “Preparation” Workshops will march (and dance) behind.

How can you participate?
If you don’t know the Shim Sham, learn it! We will be doing the dance while we march behind the ATDF Float!
1) If you are already completely familiar with the choreography for the Shim Sham Shimmy, then this event is for you!
Prep Rehearsals for the Parade

Participants will learn and rehearse the famous Shim Sham Shimmy dance to be performed at the 18th Annual Dance Parade on Friday, May 17, 2024 (5:15pm & 6pm). Dancers will be marching behind the ATDF's official FLOAT and every so often will stop to dance (in tennis shoes). Please wear all black (hats, pants, skirt or shorts) and any of our T-Shirts ($5) we sell at the Tap Center. Tennis shoes can be of any color.
FREE
But registration is required!
Students can join the workshops on May 17th even if they know the Shim Sham already.
